Transitions (TS)

A Transition refers to the process of changing from defense to offense (Transition Offense). A Transition will be calculated when the team transitions to offense, moves up court and makes a field goal attempt within 4-8 seconds before the defense has had a chance to move into position.

Changelog

July 2024

Fixes to capture missing Transition plays.

Before July 2024, only 1 play type could be attributed to a given shot attempt. This meant that if a Transition was combined with another play type (e.g. a Cut) in the lead up to a shot then the Transition would not be counted in any stats or video clips. This would lead to an overall undercounting of Transitions.

After July 2024, Transitions will be counted even if they are combined with another play type so you will see an increase in related stats and video clips.

Note, Instat Reports and API products remain unchanged and will continue to use legacy calculations, so you may see some differences compared to the web platform.
