Puck Possesion

One of the most complex parameters to be calculated are the puck possessions and team’s attacks.

In general, puck possession is defined by marking the initial action of possession and the final one, which is followed by the possession by the opponent. Here are the conditions of the start, end and transition of possession.

The start of possession: Face-off win

The end of possession: Goal, intermission, playtime stoppage, end of the game

Possession transition: Inaccurate pass, inaccurate key pass, shot, dump in, dump out is registered for a player, whose team was not in the possession of the puck before. In order to register possession transition, the previous action made by the opponent is analyzed. In case of a steal/ takeaway/ interception/ pick up of the own team, as well as challenge or unsuccessful stickhandling or shot of the opposing team, the possession transition is registered.
