Face-off

The referee drops the puck on the ice to begin playtime. This happens at the start of every period and after the game stoppage.

The countdown of the play time starts or continues with the face-off. At the moment of face-off, analysts register the players who win/lose the face-off and mark one of the 9 face-off spots on the ice. In order to define the one who won the face-off, analysts register a player whose actions lead to his team’s puck possession. There are cases of a face-off win when a player manages to shoot, make a pass, dump in, or dump out.
