Interception

Marked when a defensive player takes possession of a puck bring passed or directed between offensive players. When the successful interception is registered, the program records only the player who completed it, not mentioning the opponent. Formal criteria:

  • an intercepted pass should be made in the opponent’s direction and be accurate, while targeted to be received by a teammate;
  • an interception is mostly made by the opponent due to fast movement or speeding up. In order to record an interception the analyst observes all the actions of the player: from the moment of pass, up until the interception itself. It is done to analyse whether the player moves across the puck’s trajectory. If the puck reaches its target after interception attempts, there are two options of interception registration in the program:
  1. Should puck trajectory and speed slightly change, an interception is NOT registered.
  2. Should the puck change its trajectory and an interception reduce the speed of a threatening attack, the interception IS registered, followed by a registration of pick up or catch-up
